COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The Columbus police chief confirmed the department is investigating a deadly shooting.
Police Chief Fred Shelton said the suspect got into an argument at a home in the 1300 block of 12th Avenue South.
Shelton said one man was found dead in the front yard. Another was taken to the hospital.
“We are looking for what we believe is a small four-door car, possibly a Mazda, in connection with this incident,” Shelton said. “The driver was a heavy-set African-American male, and there was a passenger of average size wearing a white shirt of some type. We are looking for both of them and the car.”
Police believe the shots came from inside the car before the car left the area.
According to the chief, the mayor of Columbus met with command staff about gun violence during the holiday.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant later identified the victim as Frank Edwards, 20, Columbus.
