HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) – The City of Houston has placed its police chief and two officers on paid suspension.

The Houston Board of Aldermen made the decision Tuesday with a three-to-two vote.

What led to the suspensions has not been confirmed. However, they followed a Tuesday meeting where Mayor Stacey Parker and the Board discussed the employment status of Chief Alberto Davis and two officers.

The department only had seven officers in total.

Mayor Park will be overseeing the police department’s administrative operations during the suspensions.

As for safety?

“I can speak with confidence with the department that we have that we will be okay. And also, as the Alderman of Ward 4, I can also say we have a plan in action,” said Ward 4 Alderman John Harris.

He said the City of Houston has options if additional safety efforts are needed, which include bringing back neighborhood watch efforts or patrolling neighborhoods.

Harris said the city’s next steps are unclear. He said that leaders need to hear from the community before determining which direction to take.
