Shooting suspect surrenders to police

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) – A shooting suspect has surrendered to police.

The Columbus Police Department said 22-year-old Antonio Thompson Jr. turned himself in on Tuesday.

The department first began searching for him after a shooting on Aug. 27 in the 1500 block of 24th Street North.

One man was injured, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Thompson is charged with aggravated assault and failure to appear.

Police said Thompson’s mother, Petyonilla Frierson, was arrested and charged as an accessory after the fact.

Sgt. Nicholas Hairston said officers arrested Frierson after she allegedly came to the scene and drove her son away.
