Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge says Jonathon Jamahl Bardely, 29, of Columbus, is charged with manslaughter in connection with the accident.
Arledge says Bardely ran from the scene of the wreck and turned himself into authorities Christmas morning.
His bond has been set at $300,000.
The accident remains under investigation.

We now know the name of the woman killed as a result of a crash in Lowndes County Christmas Eve night.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant confirms Deanna Clark, 32, died after being pinned between the door of the car and tree.
The crash happened on Aileen Drive in northern Columbus last night.
Investigators say a 29-year-old man is in custody in connection with the crash.
Although the investigation is in the early stages, they say the two has some kind of relationship.
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - A woman is dead, and a man is being held by law enforcement in Lowndes County after a Christmas Eve crash north of Columbus.
The sheriff's office says deputies showed up on Aileen Drive around 11:50 p.m. to find a wrecked car where a 32-year-old woman was pinned between a car door and a tree. She died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
A sheriff's spokesperson says the driver fled the crash, but it appears he may have been found. A 29-year-old man is in custody, and he is being identified as the alleged driver.
According to the spokesperson, the two were in some kind of relationship and were in the car together before the crash happened. Sheriff's investigators are trying to figure out what happened prior to that.
Deputies were originally told they were responding to a shooting, but they found no evidence that any shots had been fired.
Names of the man and woman have not been released. There is no indication what, if any, charges will be filed.

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - Lowndes County authorities are searching for the male driver of a vehicle that crashed into a tree, injuring the female passenger, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.
The crash happened on Aileen Drive around midnight. The driver fled the scene.
The passenger was taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.
This is considered a domestic situation.
