Northeast drops a close heartbreaker to Jones College to fall to 1-2 in the 2026 campaign

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - After outlasting Southwest in a defensive slugfest last week to earn its first win of the season, Northeast hoped to keep its momentum rolling, but just couldn’t string together complimentary plays as they fell 31-28 to Jones.

QB Xae Mayes went 14/25 for 187 yards and 3 TDs, while Charles Stevenson had an 80-yard receiving TD. The Tigers will host archrivals Itawamba next Thursday at 7 PM.

The #11 Indians went all the way to the Gulf for their road matchup this week, but struggled mightily to #4 Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 50-24 thrashing. Caiden Holliday carried in two rushing TDs, rushing for 45 yards total.
