Chickasaw County landowner arrested in cockfighting investigation
HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) — Authorities arrested the landowner, whose property was the site of an illegal cockfighting ring in Chickasaw County.
Jack Standfield surrendered to law enforcement late Monday night.
Chickasaw County Chief Deputy Keith Roberson said Standfield owns the property along County Road 406 where the illegal activity was happening.
He allegedly told investigators he allowed people to use his land for the illegal fights.
Investigators charged him with animal cruelty and gambling.
Both state charges are misdemeanors; however, he could face federal charges.
Law enforcement received a tip on Sunday about the fighting in the 1700 block of County Road 406.
Authorities raided the property, rescued 164 fighting roosters, arrested 59 people and seized guns and other items.
