NWS Memphis (Western Tennessee, Eastern Arkansas and Northern Mississippi)

...Hot and humid conditions across the Mid-South through mid-week... ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM CDT WEDNESDAY... The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT Wednesday.

* HEAT INDEX READINGS...105 degrees or greater each afternoon and early evening.

* TIMING...Through Wednesday evening. Little relief will occur during the overnight hours as low temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 70s.

* IMPACTS...The dangerous heat could cause heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Try to stay inside an air-conditioned building. Drink plenty of fluids. Keep an eye on the elderly, children, and individuals who do not have air-conditioning or work outdoors. Remember to check the backseat for children and pets when exiting vehicles.

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

...Hot and humid conditions continue across Central Alabama... ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING... The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening.

* TEMPERATURES...will climb into the middle to upper 90s this afternoon. Heat indices will range from 104 to 109.

* IMPACTS...of the high temperatures could cause heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
