The Mississippi Supreme Court has affirmed the city of Jackson is liable for the wrongful death of a woman who was killed after she called 911 and the operator did not tell her to remain on the phone. Justices issued the ruling Thursday. Court records show 67-year-old Ruth Helen Harrion called about a prowler outside her home in July 2014. After the call ended, the prowler entered Harrion's home and raped and killed her. The city was ordered to pay her family $500,000. However, justices reversed part of the jury’s verdict that awarded her beneficiaries $1 million for violating Harrion’s constitutional rights.
