Amazon opening new facilities in Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVA) - Amazon plans to open three new operations facilities in Alabama.

Gov. Kay Ivey made the announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

One facility will be in Birmingham. It will handle delivery services. The facility will employ approximately 150 people.

In 2022, Amazon will open a second fulfillment center in Huntsville. The first fulfillment center is now open for business. Employees at the second site will receive, store and package heavy or bulky items like home appliances. The new project will provide more than 250 full-time jobs.

The same year, Amazon will open a receiving center in Montgomery. Workers here will receive and consolidate items from vendors and forward shipments to fulfillment centers. This project will provide more than 500 full-time jobs.

Amazon currently operates a fulfillment center in Bessemer, has delivery stations in Birmingham and a sortation center in Mobile.
