"we don't see one a month, usually, so to have five a week for a county this size is out of the ordinary." take a look at this video of a fatal crash with two 18 wheelers on wednesday. (adlib) and the latest fatal accidents happened on thursday and friday. merchant said a car crash claimed the life of 71 year old darryl smith. he died this morning at a hospital in jackson. merchant also pronounced, 64 year old myra may, dead at the scene of a car crash. it happened on jess lyons road and highway 45 as she was trying to make a left turn. the driver of the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries. merchant says distractions may be the reason for the spike in fatal traffic accidents in such a short time span. "people are distracted these days whether its with their children or their cell phones, where they'e headed whats for dinner. so i think if everyone just slowed down and watched out for themselves it'll help watch out for everyone." merchant told me that one of the accidents happened at the end of july, but the victim died this week. live in columbus nicole dantzler wtva nine news. at ,
