county residents are speaking out after last night's stunning sheriff's election. wtva's wayne hereford is live in monroe county with what residents have to say. the monroe county sheriff's race was a bit of a stunner with two-term sheriff cecil cantrell losing his bid to serve another term. i wanted to hear what the people of monroe county had to say about him losing to kevin crook, a former justice court judge. "o.k. so i believe that who won the sheriff's race was perfect. mr. crook was awesome he used to come in the store in the store a lot. i guess he got busy but . i think they chose the right sheriff for this county here." not many residents wanted to go on camera and speak about the race in which sheriff cecil cantrell lost to kevin crook in tuesday night's democratic primary. but one woman gave us her opinion. "he's getting older. and older does not mean that he is not going to be perfect. it just means that they just wanted something better, newer, fresher." standup.. " i talked to several monroe countians who said that without a doubt, that video showing inmates making campaign signs for cecil cantrell which aired on wtva and another audio recording that made its rounds on the internet, hurt his chances for re-election."
