marina) owner of the midway marina) oropeza / fulton, itawamba county) "we've been here 16 years...in the winter time and four years this october we will have been here permanently." earline and her husband use to travel to spend winters at the midway marina from rockford, illinois before making fulton their home. "we can't do that in illinois. you couldn't even live on a boat. so, that's why we like it here. we like all the people. everybody here...i get along with good." sitting on several acres of land off the tenn-tom waterway, the midway marina offers a long list of activities for those staying the day or a weekend. "we have volleyball courts, basketball courts, we have swimming in the pond, we have kayaking, we have boats to rent - pontoon rentals. so, there's alot for people to do out here." guy conner is one of the owners of the midway marina. he adds...one new feature they've introduced this year is cabin rentals. with their own unique name, each cabin is two stories with a back porch...offering all the amenities to make it feel like home. also known as the great loop, the midway marina see people from all over the country and all over the world. "the tennessee tombigbee waterway...it connects the tennessee river with mobile bay, and it allows people to make a trip around florida, up the east coast, through canada and the lakes, down the rivers and right past here." while the midway marina already offers so much, conner says they have plans to add to it...to accommodate their visitors. "we hope to have a restaurant open up here soon, and i think that's going to give everyone more of a homey feeling...where you can stay here for the whole weekend and in your cabin and in your boat, and enjoy yourself for a little bit." "we like to be here and that's why we plan to stay and hopefully not ever have to
