course in west point is no stranger to championship golf... of course, waverly hosted the 1999 us women's open. waverly also hosted the 2006 us women's mid amateur, next month, waverly will host it's third major usga championship... the u.s. women's amateur... the tournament will take place august 5th thru 11th. we're guaranteed a new champion because last year's winner, kristen gillman has turned pro... beginning wednesday with the round of 64 matches, the tournament will be nationally televised on fs1 admission for all rounds is free and open to the public... however, old waverly is still looking for volunteers. for more information visit rachel sadowski: 'when we're looking at a site to host one of our national championships, our number one focus is the golf course. it's something that we won't sacrifice so if we've got a great golf course that we know that we can set up for a great test of golf, that's gonna be our number 1 factor and old waverly will present an amazing test for these girls.' greg flannagan: 'it's awesome for us. it's a way for us to showcase to the world, to these 156 ladies that are coming to play this championship venue. just a way to get our name out there and expose mississippi to championship golf and that we can attract these types of players to our facility. we're very fortunate and very thankful to the usga for allowing us to do that.' an update to a story we first reported on monday.
