you music lovers! do you know what the dulcimer is? dulcimer musicians from all over north mississippi gathered today to share the sweet sound... members of the north mississippi dulcimer association meet a few times a month to play several songs for people to hear. today the musicians met at the parkway visitor's center from 10 to 12 pm. the dulcimer players played many familiar songs like wildflowers and amazing grace... which were great sing along songs to the audience... the full name for the instrument is the -appalachian mountain dulcimer- it was the first major instrument developed in america in the late 1700s. linda sullivan and her husband lead the program and have been playing for thirteen years. sullivan says that playing the instrument is much easier than most people think... "you do not have to know a note of music, we play by numbers so you do not have to have any musical background." the name dulcimer is a combination of greek and latin meaning "sweet song" or "sweet sound". still quite a
