i am at the tupelo aquatic center where john servati memorial swim meet got underway this afternoon. servati was killed trying to save the life of his girlfriend after a tornado struck tuscaloosa alabama in 2014. servati was one of tupelo best swimmers. coaches here tell me servati worked hard every day to become the swimmer he was. servati went to the university of alabama on a swimming scholarship. friends tell me he was an amazing swimmer but an even more amazing person. this annual meet is not only im memory of servati but also to raise money for a memorial dedicated to him. "john was a great swimmer. he worked hard came in and he lived to be challenged, but he was a better person." i just miss him and i love him and i know he's with me all the time im just thankful and just being able to be here and compete and let his love and his memories live on." since his tragic death the tupelo aquatic center has dedicated lane 4 to john. coaches tell me lane 4 is the fast lane and now the one here is named after him. the swim competition brings in hundreds of swimmers around the country for the three day event. reporting live in tueplo erin wilson wtva 9 news. one drug
