in starkville. a popular neighborhood is adding some new businesses to the area. wtva's nicole dantzler spoke with cotton district owner dan camp about his visions for the future.. dan camp, the owner of the cotton district, turned this neighborhood from what he calls the slums to a everyone's favorite hangout spot. it has everything from apartments, to restaurants and beauty salons..and now camp has plans to add even more businesses to the district.. ((take pkg)) "things that i had seen i said i don't know why we can't do that in starkville, mississippi." dan camp- cotton district owner rt-0:10 dan camp started building and designing things ever since he was six years old. "i got a 14 ounce hammer and never looked back." rt-0:05 camp grew up in tupelo and eventually came down to starkville to buy and build property. the first apartments he bought and built are here on lummus drive. "i started buying the properties over here and people would say i was nuts." rt-0:28-0:32 after going for a ride through the cotton district i could see it strecthes across lummus drive, holtsinger avenue, maxwell streets and several other areas. there's coffee shops, resturants and beauty salons that have an art gallery inside. but camp says hes not done yet.. we're going to have a fabulous courtyard with a 12 foot sculpture in the middle of it." rt-0:49-0:56 he's building a new restaurant and putting an ice cream shop in their new building. camp says he's been doing this for 50 years and plans to continue doing this for 20 more. live in starkville nicole dantzler wtva nine news. still
