memorial day weekend is just around the corner and that means many of you will take to the water. but as always you should remember to be safe as wayne hereford reports. ." standup.."this weekend is memorial day there will be a lot of boaters will be out having fun. the state wants you to do that. but they want you to be safe as you go." lieutenant ricky barry of the mississippi department of wildlife fisheries and parks. "they need to know anbody born after jujne 30th 1980 has got to have a boating safety education class in order to operate a boat in the state of mississippi." and he says to make sure that everyone on board has a wearable u.s. coast guard approved life jacket. and just like driving a vehicle he adds, they will be checking for b.u.i. boating under the influence. "and the legal limit for bui is just like on the road its point- oih-eight." the biggest cause of boating accidents he says is alcohol. the officers will be all over the state this weekend just like here at pickwick lake.. at pickwick they even have a new patrol boat.
