day for chick-fil-a lovers across the country. however today the parking lot on barnes crossing was filled with smiling faces. local foster and adoption organizations came together to host a day of fun for the community in hopes of spreading awareness about the number of children without homes. i was there and this is what i learned... ((nats)) "we moved from home to home. some were not that great and some were fabulous" shakira walker and other children of all ages came out to have fun and bring awareness to the large number of children without families at the chick-fil-a on barnes crossing. although today's event was all about having fun, she tells me her journey was not always easy... ((sot)) "if we didn't find a home within a month, we would be separated and one of my siblings would be moved into a foster home that we did not like very well, who was very abusive." shakira tells me she and her 7 siblings relied on prayer hoping that god would find a forever home for them that would not demand that they be separated. she says 3 weeks later their prayers were answered. ((nats)) "we found the walker family" suzanne walker is one of many foster parents who organized today's event. she tells me that the foster journey for many of these children starts with a headline on the news. "listen to the news headlines a little differently. if you hear about a fire, or a drug bust, or a murder. go ahead and assume that theirs a child involved that the news cant cover because of privacy issues and that that child has been taken from their family and put into a foster care facility or a temporary group home." although this journey for most children begins in tragedy. shakira tells me you never know how this process can help one child bring hope to another. "i had a friends she was in a foster home for about 12 years. it was very hard to talk to her about christianity and hope because she not a christian. but as we've been friends along the way she's gotten closer and closer to christ and keeping her hopes up." organizers tell me today's event was filled with children with similar stories which is why its so important to bring awareness. as
