3 finding a summer job may be a little harder for teens now than it was a few years ago. however the boy scouts of america here in tupelo are making it a little easier for teen scouts looking to put their skills to good use. the school year is almost ending and some teens are looking for ways to occupy their time and make money but its not as easy for teens to find work as it use to be. however boy scouts that are interested have the opportunity to earn another badge, with their name on it. "it would be in the areas of our shooting sports, it would be in aquatics, and it would be in cope with is our climbing." director james smallwood tells me that is just a few of the many job they're looking to fill by the start of summer. i'm told there are more than 30 openings and all scouts teen girls and boys are able to apply. one boy scout tells me by the end of camp scouts leave with something more valuable than money. "working with them showing them things that i've been doing for several years and passing on the knowledge to them. it was nice seeing them do simple things like square knots. i've been doing that four or five years now but they're just learning how to do it and its nice seeing other people getting the same knowledge that you have." parents also tell me this although they will be learning how to live in the wilderness, safety is not an issue. "i think its great that camp yocona offers this opportunity to the youth. i think it's a safe place for them to work, and i think they can learn skills to use later as an adult by working there." according to the camp leaders the camp starts june 9 and goes on for three weeks. each week a group will come in and stay day and night from sunday to saturday with about 100 scouts per week. if any scouts are interested in working for the camp this summer they are asked to call the scout service center for james smallwood or karina dykes. the bark
