district held a joint 'state of the schools' forum earlier this evening. wtva's evan hensley was there and joins us live with what this was all about this was the first time the two groups came together to share with the public their progress mayor jason shelton told me that this all about pushing for a better and more united tupelo... pkg mayor jason shelton - tupelo "we are seeing so much success right now, residential commercial construction, academic success, athletic success, artistic, extracurricular success at the school district." mayor shelton says the last year has been great for tupelo... and even when it hasn't been, the city and the schools have pushed to overcome obstacles... "with the city and the school district there is always challenges. we celebrate our successes but i don't mean to sugarcoat that we don't have challenges. but the great thing about our city and our school district is that we meet those challenges head on." dr rob picou has been the superintendent for tupelo for just under a year he said that they have been pushing for new opportunities for the students in the tupelo public school district... dr. rob picou - tupelo public school district superintendent "we're are in the initial stages of the design. it will be an opportunity for those students who are advanced, the opportunity to take classes on the icc campus before they graduate." both agreed that the city and the school district depend on each other for success... of the plans the city is working on is to upgrade the amount of resource officers in the schools from 5 to 8 reporting live in tupelo eh wtva 9 news in jackson... the mississippi
