administrators in itawamba county are hoping a new jail would give them the room they need to house more inmates. now... a location has been picked. wtva's evan hensley is there and joins us live with what the county had to say... i spome with county admnistrator gary franks earlier and he told me that the county is in need of a new facilities he said that the current jail in downtown fulton had been built in the 40's... gary franks - itawamba county administrator "it's obviously an old jail. we are crowded. we are losing a lot of our revenue by having to send it to other counties so we are going to build a new jail." stand up the new location for the counties jail is expected to be here at this empty field behind me. it is also expected to house the counties sheriff office and the court house map the location will be here just off of acess road by the tennessee- tombigbee waterway... franks saidthat the current situation is costing the county money... "at this point we are spending approximately spending 25-30,000 dollars by housing our prisoners in tishomingo county." and that the new facility will be able to help the county resolve that issue... "it should double our capacity, maybe triple and it will allow us to keep most of our prisoners here locally." "we are still in the planning stages. we have hired an architect, now that we have a site pinned down we will be able to get our cost." and like franks said this is not a done deal yet... he did tell me that this land has already been purchased by the county and the city of fulton reporting live in fulton eh wtva 9 news at meteorologist
