each. cam 2 securing our places of worship. church shootings around the country and the world prompt local churches to take another look at protecting their congregation. one church in clay county is doing just that. wtva's evan hensley joins us live with what is being done. it has been nearly a week since a shooting at a mosque in new zealand shocked the world. now...representatives here at the first united methodist church have reached out to law enforcement to see what can be done to prevent this from happening to them. "across the nation over the last few years it seems like our schools and out churches are the most vulnerable when someone wants to attack." after 50 people were shot and killed last week at a mosque in new zealand, sheriff eddie scott says he wants to prevent that from happening in his community. one west point church agrees... so the sheriffs office will now have a deputy on sight during services at the first united methodist church. "by the end of this month one of our area churches will have an armed deputy." this deputy will be paid for by the church. they will work not only as a law enforcement officer but as a member of the church's security team. "these officers will work with the established church security teams. they are not only there for security but to help improve on different aspects in the church." sheriff scott says that under his position he has this ability, and was glad to use it. but he will still need to keep a tight leash so other problems wont arise. "the only thing with the sheriffs office is that we need to be careful and not spread ourselves too thin. but i will make every available deputy i can to provide the security." sheriff scott told me that he is aware that this is a trend in other counties including lee and oktibbeha and thinks that in these days and times it can make a difference. reporting live in west point eh wtva 9 news cam 1 at , john joins us now witha first look at our weather authority
