right now at six --- a man is thankful forone of his dogs tonightafter his other three turned on him and attacked him. the attack happened inside the victim's home in myrtle. lets go live to wayne hereford who is standing by outside the union county sheriff's department with the story of one unlikely hero. 59-year old john blue says he never saw it coming. this morning on county road two in myrtle three pit bulls that he and his son raised together suddenly attacked him when he came out of his bathroom. " i never thought that something like this could happen to me but it happened. and thank god i'm alive today. thank god." 59- year old john blue, says he wouldn't be alive if it were not for his old dog he calls fittingly enough, hercules the white dog seen here. he says when his three pit bulls attacked him, hercules took action. " i had the carport door open he came up in there. he saved my life. he nailed one of the pitbull dogs the one that was locked down on me i couldn't get him a loose. he nailed him got him loose from me . he was fighting in the floor down there while i was getting the other two outside trying to secure the door but i couldn't get back in." blue says he did manage to one of the pits in the foot and stab another several times" it was horrible it was just like a total nightmare." blue was home alone ,but managed to call for an ambulance when the sheriff's department and fire departments arrived on the scene as well.union county sheriff jimmy edwards says that when he and his officers arrived they had to take action. "when we arrived on the scene, we seen friends or neighbors in the yard with baseball bats and we got there about the same time as the ambulance did." the sheriff says he shot and killed one of the dogs , the other two were later euthanized. the sheriff says the bodies of the three pitbulls have been sent for rabies analysis reporting live in union county wayne hereford wtva nine news.
