and the ban is continuing to spread like wildfire. w-t-v-a's nicole dantzler tells us why this is happening.. the lowndes county board of supervisors are preparing to hold a public hearing to ban the public sale of kratom this friday. now this drug was recently banned in caledonia last tuesday and was also banned in columbus in february. both municipalities passed a similar ordinance that forbids the sale of kratom in city limits. now the reason why the public hearing will be held friday is because a doctor and law enforcement personnel spoke about the negative effects of this drug at the last meeting. i spoke with board president harry sanders today and he says that one side says it's a good pain reliever and energy supplement. but the other side believes this is a highly addictive drug that can allow for people to over dose. "personally i think that uh, that maybe tylenol or aspirin or advil or ibuprofen and other over the counter drugs pain medication can probably help these people rather than kratom." now the board president also says that if this drug is as bad as they say, then he believes this should be banned state wide. he says it doesn't make sense to have this responsibility left up to each city or county because anyone can go to a city that doesn't ban it. both sides will be heard this friday to see where they will go from here. live in columbus nicole dantzler wtva 9 news. a standoff in iuka ends
