fifteen regional jail facilities in mississippi that house state inmates. but the sheriffs ateachfacility are asking the state legislature to give them more money to house those prisoners. wayne hereford went to chickasaw county where the sheriff was one of those who visited the state legislature. ." :16-:29 :38-:50 standup.."right now the sheriff's say they are getting less than 25-dollars per inmate .they were contracted years ago with the state to get almost 30 dollars. that difference is very troubling to one local sheriff." the chickasaw county regional correctional facility is one of fifteen in the state. sheriff james meyers and about six other sheriff's went to the state legislature this week seeking a new deal with the state for housing inmates.. his facility could hold over 300. he only has a little over 280 right now. "for some reason there was a change in philosophy that comes with whomever the commissioner is. back two commissioners ago the regional jail concept was the concept he really pushed." myers says the county made a deal with the state years ago to house the inmates. he just wants the state to uphold their end of the bargain. "i mean we assume all the responsibilities. .we hire the employees.and you know the state can save a lot of money housing the same inmate in a regional facility versus a a state-run facility. we're just asking them to use tax dollars wisely and fill up our regional jails." standup..sheirff myers says he's really confident that the state
