two towns torn up by tornadoes. the tupelo mayor took a trip to iowa to give them a little insight and advice on tornado recovery. wtva's evan hensley joins us live after speaking with the mayor. i'm standing in the joyner area... this is one part of town where that e-f 3 torando hit hard back in 20-14... meanwhile...residents in marshall-town, iowa have spent the last 7 months working to recover from an ef-3 tornado of their own... to find out what it takes to recover...they invited mayor jason shelton to speak... mayor shelton visited the town on thursday and got to see first hand where they are in the recovery efforts... he spent the day with marshall town mayor joel greer who shared his experience... mayor joel greer - marshalltown, iowa "we are going to see the light at the end of the tunnel and with any luck it won't be a train, the town will be in better shape in few years." the tornado came into marshall town in mid july of last year and damaged hundreds of homes and businesses... here was what the courthouse looked like during the chaos... shelton had seen the recovery process first hand... when an ef -3 tornado came through tupelo and damaged around 200 homes and at least 20 businesses... sot mayor jason shelton - tupelo "it's easy to get frustrated because the recovery takes time. the tornado sweeps in and out and leaves a trail of devastation. the recovery takes years and that just has to be something that we are all in it together." shelton said that its all about turning a negative into a positive... "out city came together that community spirit that makes our city and marshalltown so special able to do that and work together to recover." and the town of marshalltown is continuing to recover... they plan to have an arts festival to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the tornado... reporting live in tupelo, eh wtva 9 news....
