your best bet this week. this afternoon, skies are anticipated to continue clearing. winds will initially remain out of the west to southwest, but will shift out of a more northwesterly direction between the early to mid-afternoon hours. this will mark the arrival of our latest surface front which will bring temperatures more typical of january back into the forecast for the second-half of the work week. today, however, temps should remain in the 60s for most of the afternoon with increasingly clear skies. skies remain clear into the night tonight, dropping temperatures into the mid-30s. frost is likely early wednesday morning, followed by abundant sunshine throughout the day. as winds remain out of the north, temperatures will be much cooler. highs will likely reach into the upper 40s to lower 50s. we'll see clear skies into thursday morning as well. this, along with a light northerly flow, should allow temperatures to dip into the upper 20s. despite ample sunshine during the day, highs on thursday only reach the mid-40s. then into friday morning, we're clear again with temperatures slipping into the upper 20s and lower 30s. clouds gradually return into your friday with temperatures only reaching the mid-40s. then showers begin to build into the region friday evening. those showers will likely come in the form of all rain. but as the shower activity spreads northward across the tennessee state line, some of it may transition over to a wintry mix. so if you have travel plans into friday night, be aware that it could be a bit messier as you approach interstate 40. all of this transitions to rainfall into saturday morning. and of course, it's going to be a cold rain. temperatures on saturday dip only into the upper 30s. then into your saturday, highs are in the mid and upper 40s. we'll see showers gradually diminish into early sunday morning, leaving us partly to mostly cloudy all day long. sunday afternoon highs should reach the mid-40s. then by monday, we're gradually clearing out and getting colder. temperatures on monday will start out in the upper 20s to lower 30s. then by the afternoon, look for highs in the lower to mid-40s. for more details, visit our website at wtva.com and download our wtva weather authority app. tight more news/interviews after the break....
