to follow a story out of lee county. a man, accused in a recent fatal shooting in verona, appeared in court today. 17 year old latatavious betts faces a murder charge in a grandmother's death. wtva's rebecca butcher was in the court room today and has this report. i believe that bishop clarence parks, victim's nephew "i was really happy they captured him. the reason why, number one,i didn't want him hurting anybody else." sheriff jim johnson shared the same sentiments...in a press conference today. it was held right after suspect latavious betts'--just 17faced a judge formurder and aggravated assault charges. johnson: "i don't look at him as a 17- year-old child, i look at him like an individual who's committed two murders in our county." today the judge set a bond a 10 million dollars... betts was let out on bond for a previous murder charge in verona earlier this year...the sheriff says without proper signatures from himself or a judge. parks: "at first i was really disappointed, especially them letting him out with a murder charge already. for them to actually track him down and get him as fast as they did, the teen suspect was captured on north green street with the help of the u.s. marshals and assistance from the tupelo police help of the u.s. marshals and assistance from the tupelo police department... meanwhile, family says there's now satisfaction in him being captured so they don't have to spend christmas wondering where the relative's alleged killer is...but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. parks: "if he had have been in jail, my aunt would still be living, i believe that." that was rebecca butcher reporting. the sheriff says they are petitioning the district attorney to hold him without bond on these charges. funeral arrangements are set for tomorrow at 1 p-m at temple of compassion and deliverance.
