out! the city." pannell- actor director lion witch wardrobe lights.... curtain... break a leg... the theater is a place for many to sit back. relax... and enjoy their favorite movies... live on stage in front of them... sot: "theater is an art we enjoy expressing to each other..." and right in the middle of downtown tupelo, there is a place to do just that... bridge: the structure of this building was built in 1916 and then became a community theater in 1969 and it is now called the lyric..... sot: " the lyric theater has brought to tupelo community involvement and gatherings so that people can appreciate every level from the kid's theater to musicals, serious drama, and comedy... " sot: "it serves just a great part of the community you know serving the arts. for tupelos size, it has such an amazing art culture with the museums and theater the whole thing. and its a cornerstone of downtown." the theater provides different shows throughout the year, and this season it is the lion the witch and the wardrobe. bridge: when these curtains come up and the lights come on, and the actors and actresses come out this blank stage comes to life... nats the costumes, chilly snow set and fantasy land of narnia takes you into their world... but not without a lot of preparation... sot: "from the crews backstage to the makeup artist o the people behind set there are about 40 people who make all this happen." this cast has been practicing for the past six weeks multiple times a week... rehearsing. building sets. and critiquing their skills. all the hard work worth it. sot: "the best part is watching the development of the characters watching them grow watching pieces of wood come together to make a set... it just makes it so much fun." watching a story unfold before your eyes is a special feeling you cant get anywhere else... sot: "its live theater so every time you go out there it could be something different. it's a different audience and a different show." but one thing is for sure... tupelo is lucky to have this theater in the core of the city...
