ahs and mississippi state golfer ally mcdonald was the guest speaker monday at the rotary club of tupelo. mcdonald had an all-american career at msu, and is now a regular on the lpga tour, where she finished a career-best third in arkansas in june. among those who came to hearmcdonald speak was one of her mentors, a lady who's won a lot of tournaments herself. sistrunk: "i am so terribly proud of her, and not only for her golf, but the way she presented her activities today, and of course, i've taught her mother french before ally was ever even thought of." jim: "that's pat sistrunk, who's known ally her whole life. at 94, "ms. pat," as she's known, has a nice golf resume' herself. she has six holes in one in the okolona country club, and has also won the club championship." mcdonald: "i mean, she is the epitome of what golf is, and how long you can play it, and as she was telling me, which, i was eleven years old when we would have played together, but it's just a great game, and you can play it from when you're 11 to when you're 94, just like ms. sistrunk, and it's just a great game to be a part of." jim: "ms. pat has been playing golf since she was 11, and when ally was 11, ms. pat had to teach ally a life lesson." mcdonald: "she reminded me of that, as we were sitting there, she told me that i pitched a little bit of a fit after i didn't hit a very good drive, and she says she gave me a stern talking to, and i'm not much of showing my temper on the golf course, so she must taught me well in that one incident." sistrunk: "i said, 'ally, i know that you want to be big in golf,' and i said, 'if you can't control yourself, you'll never be able to control the game, you'll never do what you want to do.'" jim: "fifteen years later, ally mcdonald is one of the rising stars on the lpga tour." mcdonald: "it's still hard to believe, some days, when i do get to certain places, and i just kind of look around at my surroundings, and just think about how blessed i am, and where i'm at." sistrunk: "well, she's a winner, and i'm glad of it. proud of her, and the whole community should be proud of her for what she's done." ally says one of her goals is to make the united states solheim cup team, which is the ladies' equivalent of the ryder cup. as for "ms. pat," not only is she still playing golf, she says she can still hit a drive roughly 140 yards off the tee. msu's women's basketball team remains number six in the ap poll, while the msu men move up to number 22. that's sports. more news after this.
