roads and dropping temperatures are a mixture that's keeping drivers in oxford on alert. wtva's rebecca butcher joins us livewith what crews are doing tokeep the roadways safe and how people are dealing with the freezing weather. as you can expect no one is lingering outside if they don't need to. mdot crews have been salting roads. we sawflurries of snow coming down today, some people exited at the sight. ." vickie henley, mother henley: "as you can see it's snowing now." "it's snowing yay!' four-year-old declan couldn't contain his joy at the white mist coming down in oxford. others weren't totally prepared for the drop in temps. kajah coleman, oxford resident "it's a little bit too much to be in the south. i'm not really used to this cold weather, but i guess i got ot get used to it now." lafayette county schools were let out early because of the inclement weather. parents like mrs. henley were out at stores stocking up. "we're at the store making sure we have everything we need to take care of the family so we don't have to get back on the road where it's dangerous." ..to keep families safe...m-dot workers were prepped and ready to go...salting bridges and roads to increase traction.
