"we'd just like to ask the senator about the public hanging comment.we put out a statement yesterday and we stand by that statement. could you expand on it then as to why you said it? what you meant by it, and why people should not see it as offensive? we put out a statement yesterday, its available and i stand by the statement." that's what senator cindy hyde-smith said to reporter earlier today about her statement. hyde-smith ,seen here during that rally in tupelo , back on november 2nd , would not elaborate on he comments any further. governor phil bryant was on hand to offer his opinion about what cindy hyde-smith said. "she's certainly addressing the fact that she has put out a statement. i can tell you all of us in public life have said things on occasion that we could have said better. of course, there are those who were not pleased to say the least with cindy hyde- smiths statement. "its 2018 now, we're living in the year of 2018. and who would think that someone would come with statements like that at a time like this .the way the world is and the way that things are going on in this world you would come and have the audacity to say something like that about lynching somebody and you would sit on the front row. that's the most ridiculous thing i have heard." hyde-smith faces democratic challenger mike espy on the 27th for the congressional seat that she was appointed to by governor phil bryant. the associated press says that an espy campaign spokesman said that quote "we need leaders, not dividers, and that her words show that she lacks the understanding and judgement to represent the people of our state." unquote. later tonight the lee county republican club is scheduled to meet we hope to have some reaction from the meeting. reporting
