for two decades, bill russell was the girls basketball coach at pontotoc high school. but last year, russell returned to his alma mater, south pontotoc, to become the lady cougars' head coach. tonight, russell was back in pontotoc. his south pontotoc squad taking on new hope in the bank of pontotoc classic. tight ball game in the fourth quarter, when it was tied at 33. lady trojans would take the lead, thanks to a drive to the basket by imoni harris. new hope up by two. but south pontotoc would get hot from long distance down the stretch. lexie ward for three. lady cougars now in front. moments later, ward finds rebekah pilcher, who will also knock down a three. lady cougars go on to win by the final of 54-40. south pontotoc improves to three-and-oh. ingomar's girls also trying to get to three-and-oh,taking on potts camp this afternoon in the first game of the west union round robin. trent adair's lady falcons up, five-nothing, in the first quarter. but the lady cardinals hanging around. brenya buse for three. potts camp actually led for part of the first quarter. ingomar answering. off a steal, gara beth self taking this one to the basket. lady falcons back in front. later, self finds lauren thompson, who knocks down the three. ingomar goes on to win, 61-23. they'll take on the hosts from west union on friday night. placekicker michael baugus
