in mississippi...many deer are becoming more active wtva's gracyn ashmore joins us live to explainhow you can prevent hitting one. thanks shante and i am sure if you live in tupelo you know how many deer are seen out here where i am standing on the natchez trace... today i spoke with calhoun county sheriff greg polan and he gave a few tips to keep drivers safe. north mississippi is scattered with highways and county roads that are breeding grounds for deer... andif drivers are not careful, then a deer crossing the road can become fatal... calhoun county sheriff greg pollen says his team has already responded to at least 10 calls involving deer since august... stand up gracyn ashmore rtr: 00:00 "sheriff pollan says this will continue to increase as the temperature continue to drop." vo and he says the peak of the season has not even begun yet... his own deputy being a victim of this issue last night... hitting a 10 point buck... luckily for the sheriff he is safe today, but that is not always the case... sot "we've had fatalities here in the county, with them. so,youknow, it's something you've gottawatch out for." vo and sheriff pollen gives viewers these tips for staying safe during this season saying where your seatbelt... slow down while driving at dusk anddawn... andto apply your brakes gently instead of swearing on the road to avoid hitting the deer... sot "there is no piece of property worth your life." the threat of deer moving across highways will continue to increase as the weather gets colder and the nights get earlier... reporting in tupelo, gracyn ashmore wtva 9 news...
