coffee... the state high school slow- pitch softball playoffs have reached the third round. just a couple of nights ago, mantachie eliminated nettleton in three games, while south pontotoc swept itawamba ahs. tonight, the lady mustangs hosting the lady cougars. to mantachie we go. game one. south pontotoc already up, 4-1, in the second inning. emma carwyle with a solo home run, and the lady cougars extend their lead to 5-1. lady mustangs answer in the bottom of the second. it's 5-3 and two aboard for mckinley montgomery, and she delivers a three-run homer. montgomery gives mantachie a 6-5 lead. hanna gillean would follow with a solo homer to make it 7-5. but south pontotoc storms back to win, 23-12. lady cougars win game two by the final of 13-0 to advance to the north half finals. east union at hamilton. game one. the lady urchins waste little time putting a run on the board. lead-off hitter emily coggin parks one to deep centerfield. the first of two home-runs for coggin in this game. east union led 1-0 after half an inning. the lady lions even the score in the bottom of the first. anna claire stahl is able to score after an east union throwing error. but, the lady urchins go on to win game one 10-5, and sweep the series with a 9-6 victory in game two. it was not a happy homecoming last week for northeast. the tigers lost to mississippi delta to drop to one-and-five on the season. the schedule not getting any easier as seventh-ranked jones visits tiger stadium. northeast hosting its annual breast cancer awareness night. and the tigers had a pink out. their jerseys and helmets are black and pink for this game. on the back of the jerseys, the names of those being supported. jones was in control early. this cristofer thompson field goal makes it 24-0, bobcats. greg davis and company would respond on their next possession. it'sa reverse! and it's d'jordan strong with a strong run down to the jones 30-yard line. strongwith "mollie-lou strong" on the back of his jersey. tigers did not score on that drive. next jones possession, terry joiner comes up with the stop for northeast. joinerwith "roy robinson" on the back of his jersey. jones up, 24-0, at halftime. bobcats go on to win, 40-27. high school football. leake central at new hope. second possession for the trojans.... braylen miller finds a hole and runs for a new hope first down. one play later, ryan burt drops back and finds trey bailey for another trojan first down... however, this drive would not end well for new hope. antwan roland picks up a first down, but coughs the ball up to a leake central defender... the gators would then go 3-and-out... the trojans get the ball back with good field position. on 4th and goal, ryan burt sneaks in for the score. close game, but new hope prevails, 24-17. eupora at leflore county. 3rd quarter...eupora clinging to a 15-14 lead...qb edwin herard goes around the corner for the nice gain...inside tigers' terriory before being forced out of bounds...howeve r the drive would produce no points as the eagles cough up the ball...recovered by the tigers...this one was tight from the start to the end... eagles win it, 23-22. coffeeville at simmons. blue devils riding a 47 game winning streak into this match- up...opening quarter...scorel ess game... 4th and 9 for the blue devils ... tyderius gipson passes deep to antavius rounds for six...big blue strikes first...up 7-nothing...later in the first, same score...gipson has no one open so he takes off running for the big gain before being pushed out of bounds around the 15 for the first play, it's demarrius turner who runs it in for the score... simmons makes it 48 wins in a row with a 63-0 victory. that's sports. more news after this. temperatures dropping to the mid 40s or
