place october 13th. military appreciation night at icc, and it was also the north division opener for the indians. not an easy opener at that. number one-ranked and defending national champion east mississippi. fulton native vijay miller is the lions' quarterback. north pontotoc product clark mills getting the start under center for icc. more on him in a bit. as for vijay miller, he got emcc off to a nice start. opening drive for the lions, miller finds adrian miller. miller to miller, making it "miller time".... 41-yard touchdown....emc c up, 7-0.... next drive for the lions....miller goes deep to another target, dontario drummond.... 69-yard touchdown.....em cc up, 14-0.... indians would cut it to 14-3, but the lions come right back down the field. deon mcintosh with a seven-yard touchdown run, amking it 21-3, emcc. indians would hang in there, though. second quarter....mills finds jamel thomas, who takes it down to the one-yard line.... icc had to settle for another caleb comer field goal to cut it to 21-6. and then it gets much closer.... de'sean dinkins with nothing but open field in front of him.... 88-yard touchdown run cuts it to 21-13.... but emcc would go on to win, 56- 26. it was also military appreciation night at northeast, and it was also the north division opener for the tigers. northeasthosting the macjc's other tigers from coahoma. northeast still looking for its first win. to tiger stadium we go. second play from scrimmage, zac oden hits carson banks on a slant... banks takes it 77 yards to the house. the northeast tigers take the quick 7-0 lead... ensuing coahoma possession... on 3rd down, sam williams helps wrap up myron norfleet... the tigers punt it back to northeast... northeast gets in the red zone but would settle for a 27 yard michael baugus field goal. 10-0 northeast. coahoma hangs around, but northeast takes this one 20 to 18. also, northwest defeats mississippi delta, 59-16. high school football. myrtle versus hickory flat in new albany. both teams share this field. there was a lengthy lightning delay in this game... first play of the second quarter...... a.i. nugent breaks off a 50 yard touchdown run to give the hawks a 21-0 lead... the rebels score a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff to get on the board... myrtle comes right back... a.i. nugent with another big run into hickory flat territory... much to the delight of myrtle head coach justin hollis. a couple plays later, guess who, a.i. nugent caps off the drive with a 16 yard td run.. myrtle wins 41-14. the hawks are now 4-1. mississippi state women's basketball coach vic schaefer was in tupelo today. schaefer was the guest speaker and instructor at the 2018 northeast mississippi basketball coaches association coaching clinic. this was at the tupelo police athletic league. schaefer is the reigning naismith coach of the year after taking msu to two consecutive national championship games. he was awarded recently with a big contract extension, which he discussed with wtva's andy lee. vic schaefer: 'we love mississippi's been so much fun in the six years we've been there.i just appreciated dr. keenum and coach cohen and their trust and confidence.we're looking forward to this season.we should be good again. we'll be different, but we should be very talented.' high school softball. nettleton over new hope, 13-9. smithville over thrasher, 18-8. houston over louisville, 19-4, as paige kilgore and aquana brownlee hit homers. that's sports. more news after this.
