this one out of lee county...where authorities say callers are actually posing as officers. an honest job (nats) sheriff jim johnson says his office got 7 to 8 calls this morning...people concerned about so-called"deputies" or "officers" asking for their money or else. sheriff johnson: "they're trying to make a restitution for an unpaid fine that you've got and telling you that if you don't pay it there's going to be some type of incarceration." josh deaton: "it's pretty shocking i wouldn't believe it." that's how most of the people feel i spoke to, once i told them the sheriff's office doesn't even use calls for collecting money. sheriff johnson: "if we are looking for you, we are not going to contact you over the phone for some type of payment, we can't even accept payments here." will porter "i think it's rude for people to that. it surprises me people would do that." many agreeing its best to just hang up on callers who are trying to decieve you. collin ferguson ferguson: "they just need to get their money with an honest job." if you do receive an odd call like this you're urged to contact authorities. reporting in lee county i'm rebecca butcher wtva nine news.
