the middle and lower-70s across much of northeast mississippi. a few isolated showers managed to continue even into the late overnight hours. there could be an isolated light shower present as we head through the first-half of the morning and into the late-morning. the best chances for rain, however, will exist during the afternoon and early evening. by best chance, i mean a slight chance with shower and storm coverage peaking at about 20%. this means most of northeast mississippi will stay dry and the focus will be on the heat as opposed to any storms that may try to develop. excessive heat advisories will go into effect by mid-morning for much of the area and will remain in effect until around 8 pm this saturday evening. heat advisories are issued when the heat index is anticipated to reach the 105 to 109 range for at least a few hours. the northern-half of our area will likely reach that threshold today and that is why the advisories are in place. basically, if you are planning to be outdoor between roughly 9 am and 8 pm today, you should do the following: 1)take freqent breaks in the shade or preferably in an air-conditioned environment 2)drink plenty of hydrating fluids (water, sports drinks etc.) 3)if possible avoid strenuous activity (running, yard work, etc.) 4)check frequently on the young, elderly and pets as they are more susceptable to heat stress than others. 5)look before you lock (always check the backseat for pets, people and other objects that may overheat in the backseat of your car). 6)if possible, opt for light-colored breathable clothing
