cracker barrel in columbus. first reported as breaking news this morning on wtva nine news today, the suspected shooter has been captured. robert beckis in custody in tennessee where he was arrested after a bolo went out nation wide. right now he's charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and columbus police are working with authorities in tennessee to get him back to mississippi. the shooting happened friday evening on north 18th avenue not far from leigh mall. beck is believed to have shot the manager of the restaurant after looking for his girlfriend. today at a press conference columbus police chief fred shelton spoke to the two's prior relationship and how there might have been a history of domestic issues. there was a call prior to where he had been told stay away from there but as far as a court order i dont know there may have been a trespassing notice but again we are trying to confirm that. we did respond to a 911 call concerning him harrassing her and being told to leave the property. so we do know there was a prior relationship between him and the young lady. shelton said the victim remains in the hospital in stable condition. other than the one person shot, no other injuries were reported. along with their investigation, shelton said keeping the city safe remains a top priority. we are going to make sure the citizens of columbus are safe. we are working with the management at cracker barrel we are going to have officers there to do walkthroughs like we do at all businesses and make sure they're safe. shelton also thanked all the agencies involved in the investigation and said they will continue to work this case.
