today was an off day for mississippi state. wtva sports director jim holder is here to tell us how the bulldogs spent their wednesday. jim holder/omaha, ne: "msu doesn't play again until friday, but the diamond dogs are staying busy until then. they have to practice, rain or shine. they started outdoors wednesday at creighton university, but the rain kept falling harder. the bulldogs dashed off the field, into the dugout, and then, indoors. msu took some batting practice for about an hour. two days can seem like an eternity, so how do they stay focused?" gary henderson/msu head coach: "well, you keep doing the same things we've been doing, you talk to them daily, and try to let them know what the priorities are, i'm not real concerned, i'm concerned that we stay loose and that we play well, but i'm not concerned about them drifting too much, they seem to be in a pretty good place right now." cole gordon/msu pitcher: "i mean, we've been though it all year, you know, we've had the construction site, we had all that stuff, so, this is nothing new, it's just another opportunity for us to get out here and be together, practice and keep moving forward to the goal we ultimately want, the championship." "after practice, msu's baseball team visited the children's hospital in omaha. this hospital has been around for more than 50 years, and serves more than 150 children. msu is the first college world series team to visit the hospital this year, and officials tell us the team that visits first wins the cws 90 percent of the time. the players were split into three groups. this one included tanner poole, elijah macnamee, luke alexander and zach neff." zach neff/msu pitcher: "it's special, meeting these kids, it's fun, it's entertaining, and hopefully, they had a good time with it, it's more them than it is for us, but we donate our time to them." jim holder/omaha, ne: "back on the diamond, gary henderson says jacob billingsley will start on the mound for the bulldogs on friday. msu is back at practice thursday morning at diamond, gary henderson says jacob billingsley will start on the mound for the bulldogs on friday. msu is back at practice thursday morning at creighton university. reporting from omaha, jim holder, wtva 9 sports." thanks jim. the college world series continues today with two more games... arkansas and texas tech fighting to seize control of bracket two... the red raiders got off to a nightmare start... two on, two outs for dominic fletcher in the top of the first... fletcher pops up to left-center field and d'oh!!!!! somebody callit!!! two runs score on the gaffe the razorbacks defeat the red raiders 7-4. tech faces florida thursday in an elimination game. in the night cap, oregon state leads north carolina 7-6 in the 8th. nettleton high school has a new head baseball coach. joseph koon takes over for will hawkins. this is koon's first head coaching job. he was an assistant at nettleton the past two seasons. koon is a tupelo native and played his college ball at icc and southeastern louisiana university. some sad news, john ward the longtime voice of the tennessee volunteers died this evening. ward was 88... that's sports, we're back after this..
