ncaa legislation will ease transfer restrictions on student athletes. beginning in october, d1 athletes will have the ability to transfer to a different school without asking their current school for permission. the new system allows a student to inform his or her current school of a desire to transfer. the school then has two business days to enter the student's name in a national transfer database. once the student's name is in the database, other coaches are free to contact that individual. there is a caveat.. individual conferences can still restrict athletes from transferring within the league. in addition, the d1 council decided d-1 football players can play up to four games in a season without losing a year of eligibility.
