by the way, announced this morning it is taking state inmates away from local regional facilities... w-t-v-a's craig ford joins us withthe story. you may not be aware but the state pays some local jails to keep their inmates. it helps the state since it's dealing with a lack of manpower at its facilities. and the counties who hold those inmates benefit because they're getting money fromthe state. well, this morning the department of corrections posted a message on its facebook page. the agency announced it is cutting back the number of state inmates at those regional jailsto contractual levels because it doesn't have the money. corrections commissioner pelicia hall says the move is being made because it did not get money from the legislature to erase a three point six million dollar deficit in that program for the current budget year. jails in alcorn and chickasaw counties are among the local jails that have agreements with the state to hold those inmates. alcorn county sheriff ben caldwell says some of those state inmates were taken away from his jail today. and he acknowleged the financial hit the county will take by not having those inmates. chickasaw county sheriff jim meyers says it's cheaper for the state to put its inmates in regional jails like his. an
