marks the 50th anniversary of martin luther king jr,'s assassination. crowds have lined the streets surrounding the downtown area to hear from speakersin memphis. we join wtva's rebecca butcher....whoistalking to people who have traveled to commemorate this day... she joins us live from memphis now. i can tell youthe spirit in the air here is hopeful butdetermined. i spoke to several people who traveled from places like massachusetts and even residents from the union county and saltillo area. they tell me that although these events are commemorative of dr. martin luther king jr.'s fight for civil rights...the struggle is not over. at the lorraine motel, several speakers including state rep johnnie turner told of her experience boycotting on memphis buses...others encouraged people to express their rights. there are a lot of events happening, including an unveiling of the 'i am a man'...i spoke to one man with the march against poverty and he tells me that he marched here to memphis...from atlanta. i'll have more on events at 4, 5, and 6...so stay tuned. live in memphis rb wtva nine news. we're following two major national breaking
