we'll begin our spring football tour with ole miss... the rebels resumed practice tuesday afternoon.... the last 2 seasons, ole miss has been thin and inexperiencedat linebacker.... matt luke signed three linebackers in the early signing period, and has been encouraged by what he's seen from the group under new position coach john sumrall... matt luke: 'you know, i really like they're taking on coach sumerall's personality a little bit and playing physical. i sawa couple physcial plays that i haven't really been seeing with them playing downhill against a run right there at the end of practice against josh clark. he attacked the fullback and blew him up in the hole. there's some really good things going on right now, obviously there's a lot to improve on a long way to go but you know, you're seeing flashes.' mississippi state began spring practice yesterday... first year head coach joe moorhead was excited to get back on the field... as was senior quarterback nick fitzgerald.... of course, the team will be cautious with fitz this spring as he continues to rehab follwing november's ankle surgery.... after practice, moorhead discussed fitgerald's status and what hehopes to see from the qb this spring... joe moorhead: 'he's gonna be limited. we're gonna ease him back into it. we don't want to get too far in front of our skis but we'll allow him to do the things he's capable of doing. in the repetitions that he's able to participate just an understanding of the installation we're putting in that day and as it continues to build up.' alabama also began spring practice on tuesday.... nick saban welcomed six new assistantcoaches to the practice field... the tide returns 10 starters from last years national championship team... of course, the big question in tuscaloosa will be who will start under center, jalen hurts or tua tongavailoa... nick saban had no interest in answering that question on day 1 of spring ball... nick saban: i know that every time i stand up here you're gonna try and make something out of it that it isn't. it's two good players that both can contribute to our team and we're gonna both give them an opportunity to do that. i don't really have anything to say. i know you want me to make something up that really isn't there so you can make a big deal out of this but it's a competition just like it is at every other position.' late last night, mississippi state earned its first trip to the nit semifinals in 11 years with an emphatic 79-56 win at louisville... the bulldogs face penn state tuesday at 8 frommadison square garden... the last coach to lead msu to the nit final four was rick stansbury.... stansbury could face his old school in the nit championship game.... that would be wild.... stansbury's western kentucky hilltopers defeated oklahoma state 92-84 tonight in stillwater.... stans is in just his second season at western kentucky.... the hilltoppers willmeet the st. mary's-utah winner in tuesday's first semifinal... some baseball scores for you... number 5 icc defeats holmes 5-3 in game one of their doubleheader... holmes earns the split with a 10-3 win in game 2. northeast also in action today.... the tigerswent on the road and swept mississippi delta. northeast won game 1, 15-4, and game 2, 11-10.... northeast softball coach jody long won his 300th career game for the tigers following a sweep at dyersburg state... msu baseball defeats texas southern 11-6... the diamond dawgs head to missouri this weekend... kansas city, missouri is where we find the msu women.....and wtva sports director jim holder... look for live reports from jim beginning tomorrow.... that's sports, we're back after this... as we
