Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., opposed the nomination saying Becerra’s “record has proven he would seek to replace private health insurance, embrace radical policies on immigration, undermine pro-life protections, and damage religious liberty.”
Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., echoed Wicker’s remarks.
“I continue to believe Mr. Becerra is a poor choice to be given control of our federal health programs,” she stated. “He brings with him an unapologetic record as an extreme partisan who doesn’t pause to pursue policies that harm pro-life causes, religious liberties, and other important freedoms.”
