PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX-TV) — Authorities say a truck has run off a highway bridge and plunged into a river in south Mississippi, killing the driver.
WLOX-TV says the driver’s body was recovered Tuesday morning from the Pascagoula River.
The tractor-trailer had gone over the side of the Interstate 10 bridge about 4:30 a.m.
An emergency official said the driver was trying to avoid another accident scene when the truck went through the bridge’s concrete wall.
It was submerged in about 9 feet of water. Authorities say another person asleep in the truck's cab was able to escape with minor injuries.
