Thompson dismissed Jan. 6 lawsuit to avoid 'appearance of a conflict'

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., says he’s dismissed his claim in the lawsuit against former President Donald Trump surrounding the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Thompson made the announcement on Wednesday saying, “In an effort to avoid the appearance of a conflict, I’ve dismissed my claim in the lawsuit I brought to address the events of Jan 6."

In February, Thomspon filed a lawsuit claiming Trump incited the riot.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., appointed Thompson to lead the panel that’ll investigate the events of that day.
