ONEONTA, Ala. (AP) — The son of an Alabama couple has been sentenced to prison for killing his parents and burying their bodies in a shallow grave.
AL.com reports 20-year-old Leo Santiago Chavez was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 10 years in prison Wednesday.
He was convicted of murder in March for the deaths of Adalberta Chavez Ruiz and Ricardo Santiago Gonzales.
They were reported missing by family members on Dec. 16, 2017, and their remains were recovered in Oneonta several weeks later.
At the sentencing hearing, a prosecutor indicated Chavez apologized to the couple's family members.
