ALABAMA (WTVA) – A mysterious “boom” in Alabama on Tuesday has left many scratching their heads, reports Newsweek.

This boom was felt in counties in the central and eastern area of the state.

Blount County 911 issued a tweet asking if anyone heard a “loud explosion” in west Blount County.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a tweet stating the boom appeared to not be weather-related.

“We don’t have an answer, and can only hypothesize with you. 1) sonic boom from aircraft; 2) meteorite w/current Leonid shower?"
