GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WTVA) — Dan Mullen left for Florida after a successful nine-season run in Starkville as the head football coach at Mississippi State.
Now comes word his time is up as the head coach in Gainesville.
Multiple media outlets reported Sunday that Florida fired Mullen after four seasons on the job.
His overall record with the Gators is 34-15, but he's 5-6 this season, losing four out of his last five games.
The only win in that stretch was a struggle in defeating Samford, an FCS program.
Florida will close the regular season against Florida State.
Mullen's dismissal comes at the hands of the same athletics director who hired him, one also with ties to the Bulldogs.
Scott Stricklin spent six years as athletics director at Mississippi State before taking the same job at Florida.
He saw the success Mullen had in Starkville, which included a run with quarterback Dak Prescott and a number one ranking in the college football polls for a brief time in 2014.
Stricklin later brought Mullen to Gainesville after only one year in his new job.
